Four students from the University of Malaya managed to collect RM8378.00 for the “Siswa Pulang Mengundi” project. They started the initiative because there were many concerns from the students who wanted to go back and vote in the 14th general election.

Aaron Denison, the student of International Masters in Regional Integration (IMERI) in University of Malaya started the project because he wanted the students to participate in the election regardless of who they will vote for.
“I read someone else started this project for all the Malaysians. So, I thought there should be one platform exclusively for the students too,” he said.
“I just wanted the first time voters like me to participate in Malaysian democratic process,” Aaron added. He also said that this project has no political affiliation at all.
He at first wanted to use his own money, a total of RM450.00, but after seeing the application for the students started to build up, he then decided to talk to four other friends in the university named Daniel Mizan Qayyum, Wan Ammar Daniel and Bern.

“I was contacted by Aaron, and I am moved by his action to help the students who were having difficulties in going back home to vote,” Daniel Mizan Qayyum, the student of Bachelor of Laws in University Malaya said.
They got the money from the donations by many individuals such as their families, neighbours, former bosses, lecturers and other Malaysians. They strictly did not receive any funding from the political parties, or any huge organizations.
Eighty-seven students from the University of Malaya (UM), University Teknologi MARA (UiTM), University of Utara Malaysia (UUM), and University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) were benefitted from this project.
They had to prioritize the students from the peninsular of Malaysia by buying the bus tickets for them. This is because they have not enough funding to support the flight tickets for the Borneo students.
When asked about the result of the election, Aaron said, that finally the people are in power. “The students have the rights to demand for the future that we want. The whole nation especially the students are watching the new government” he added.
