PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING
2018 is a great year for movie lovers. We have more long awaited adaptations, thrilling sequels and spin-offs movies that are yet to be released. Pacific Rim: Uprising is one of the most anticipated movie of 2018. A sequel to the movie in 2013, this new movie is definitely not disappointing. It is worth to wait for about 5 years.
This continuation to Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 film is an action packed movie suitable even for youngsters. Yes of course there are words that are quite vulgar for them but it is not something that they did not already know. Pacific Rim: Uprising continues the story of mankind’s battle to stop the monstrous Kaiju from invading the human world.
The experience of watching this movie directed by Steven S. DeKnight is like rewatching your favorite childhood cartoon – it charmed you all over again. Adapting a very richly detailed of science fiction into the movie, it did not failed to bring forward the importance of men bonding with each other. Although human built great strong robots (Jaeger) that can destroy the Kaijus, it cannot function properly without the right people conducting it. Big Jaeger needs two pilots that has high compatibility with each other to work. Of course at the end of the story Jake Pentecost who was played John Boyega is most compatible with Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny), a teenage girl who becomes orphan due to Kaiju attack. In addition to that, another interesting belief represented through its characters is anybody can make a difference. With that belief in mind, the story centered around two protagonist (Jake and Amara) who overcome their complications and ended up making a massive difference. The plot is a bit cliché. The grown up man and the teenage girl clicked really well, the boss’s assistant is the villain and of course, he is defeated.
What is more interesting about this movie is its multi-cultural values. The characters are richly diverse – there are representatives from Korea, Russia, United States, China and a few more. The movie itself through its remarkable Jaeger brings audience to places across the globe from the slums of Los Angeles to China, Tokyo and Siberia.
In conclusion, although the plot is a bit cliché but there are not many sequels that are truly original. Considering other elements in the story, I believe Pacific Rim: Uprising is a movie that will fill you with excitement and touch your heart simultaneously. 4 out of 5 stars.
